January 2024 Event at Shemer Center for the Arts: Revealing VSCN's 1st Official Network Partner

2024's first event was an evening at Shemer: a City of Phoenix Point of Pride.
Introducing Western Spirit Scottsdale's Museum of the West, now an official VSCN network partner. Todd Bankofier, Executive Director of Scottsdale’s very own Smithsonian Museum, spoke of the diversity and necessity of a museum that educates locals and visitors alike on how the west was really settled. Voted #1 Western Museum in the US, they are open 7 days a week and until 9 PM on art walk Thursdays.
Shonna James, Executive Director of Shemer Art Center, spoke about the history of the property & how it came to be an essential and educational parcel of the City of Phoenix.
1919, the home was built on 640 acres of land owned by investors creating the “Arcadia” neighborhood.
1927, 40 acres including the home was sold to heirs of the Penzoil fortune
1984, it was put on the market then given to City of Phoenix by Martha Shemer who wanted to provide the City with an Arts Center
2011 it was bought by a nonprofit from the city where they maintain the property and grow the art community hosting classes, workshops exhibitions and events, including wine and painting classes in evenings
The evening featured bites from Royal Catering Az. Chef Sebastian Wijata. Offering 8/7/10 course menus with a mobile pizza oven, classes, & private events.

This was an amazing meeting! They food was so good I had to go back for 4ths. The art at the Shemer Art Center was jaw dropping, eye opening! Also, huge thanks to Todd, and the Western Spirit Scottsdale Museum of the West for all the support!
